About Tom
Tom Jenson
Owner | Arch.Tech
Tom founded Deviate Design Inc. in 2020 to help bring new, creative designs to Alberta’s residential markets. He brings 19+ years of design experience with Calgary’s infill and suburban housing, along with extensive knowledge of local bylaws, building codes, and construction practices.
Tom graduated from SAIT’s Architectural Technology program in 2005. Over the next few years, Tom expanded his construction knowledge working at suburban home builders, such as Cardel Homes, Broadview Homes, and Genesis Builders Group, where he excelled at maintaining quality drawings while keeping pace with demand during Calgary’s housing boom.
For the next decade (2009-2020) Tom was the lead technologist at Inertia Residential Design / Gravity Architecture, where he was involved in every stage of the architectural process: bylaw and code analyses for highest- and best-use studies; conceptual design and planning; change-of-use, development, and building permits; and construction documentation. Tom has a proven ability to find design solutions that satisfy client needs within the context of City requirements and community expectations. As the senior technologist, Tom was also in charge of developing drafting/BIM standards and enforcing them through quality control checks.
In 2021, Tom completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Calgary, with concentrations in Architecture, Urban Studies, Visual Studies and Art History. He also volunteers for Calgary’s East Village Neighbourhood Association. Outside of work, Tom can be found behind a camera or discussing the evolving saga of the Star Trek multiverse.
